Flow Rate
The Flow Rate can also be called Throughput and identify the number of UNITS going through the process per UNIT OF TIME.
It is the minimum between the DEMAND and the PROCESS CAPACITY.
Generally it is measured in Unit/Min or Unit/H. It is usually indicated with letter R.
Using Little’s Law to calculate throughput with the equation:
Where I is the number of units contained within the system, Inventory; T is the time it takes for all the inventory to go through the process, Flow Time; R is the rate at which the process is delivering throughput, Flow Rate or Throughput.
