The Balanced Scorecard
The Balanced Scorecard is a comprehensive approach to designing your organization’s strategy. Rather than focus on just one aspect of the business, which for many executives would be financial KPIs, the Balanced Scorecard approach looks at 4 categories together.
Financial Performance | Customer Satisfaction | Learning and Growth | Internal Business Processes
This ensures a business doesn’t focus too much on making money while destroying employee morale, or driving throughput at the expense of quality. This is the balance created by the Balanced Scorecard.

The scorecard portion answers the question, “How will we measure our performance in each area of our business against our strategic goals?” To do this you have to create actionable key performance indicators or KPIs for each of the 4 categories.
